Safety
Most of our spirits have been very damaged by behavior brought on by our excessive alcohol and drug use. I didn't know how this had affected me, it was causing me to feel there was nowhere safe, and no one I could trust, not even myself. Having a damaged spirit was making my life more and more impossible and fueling my constant need for oblivion. When I went to my first meeting where I met people who were in recovery, and knowing what to expect, I did feel something different but wasn't quite sure of what that was. I now know that what I was feeling was because of my spirit, and that I was safe for the first time in a long time, and that these people I barely knew I could trust. It can be confusing when we're new in recovery, but our spirit will always guide us to safety.
