Default Committed to the Call

Committed to the Call

I am still confident of this; I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
Psalm 27:13-14

David’s security in the Lord in the face of his enemies is seen in Psalm

27. He is confident that he will see the Lord’s faithfulness no matter what happens. He was committed to God and to the call on his life. He knew that he had to wait for the Lord’s deliverance when his enemies pursued him, and he knew that he had to be strong and take heart. David had confidence in God – not in his own abilities. His confidence was rooted in his understanding that God is good and that His goodness could be seen in the land of the living. I say could be seen because it was David’s responsibility to see God’s goodness; he had a choice to believe God would manifest His goodness towards him, or he could have chosen to believe that God would fail him.

Before David became king of Israel, he was just a shepherd boy, but not an ordinary shepherd boy. What made him extraordinary is that he believed that God was good and that He would deliver the Israelites from the oppression of the Philistine giant. David was an ordinary shepherd boy who believed that he would see the goodness of the Lord deliver the Philistine giant into his hand. David said to the Philistine, “you come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. (I Samuel 17:45) David killed the giant with a sling and a stone because he believed that he would see God in the land of the living. He believed that God would deliver him.

Do you believe that God is active in the world today? Do you have the attitude of David that no matter what you face, God is present and will come to your aid? Sometimes it may seem that God is far away or that He is not aware of your problems. David’s words, written so long ago, give us the courage to wait. Wait for the Lord, be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

(Psalm 27:14) He will surely come.

Heavenly Father,

I am weary with defeat. Give me confidence like David to know that You are near. As I wait for You, help me to take heart, knowing that You will come to my rescue.

In Jesus’ name, Amen

Joanna Ellison
