Stinking Thinking
STINKING THINKING
Stinking thinking is anything we think that is not good for us or others. We can learn to have better thoughts about ourselves and others when we choose to pay more attention to what we read, watch or listen to. We should protect our minds from negative things like certain television shows, gossip, news, etc. We need to fill our minds with good things we want to do to serve God and help others. Reading and meditating on God’s word will give us better thoughts than watching a violent movie or reading a trashy novel. What can we do today to make our thoughts more pleasing to God? SCRIPTURE: Philippians 4:8 “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (NLT) ACTION STEPS: 1. List ways you have had negative thoughts. 2. Write down what thoughts you need to change based on the Philippians 4:8. 3. Ask God to help you any negativity in your heart or mind. 4. Seek His word and focus on it to help you have better thoughts. PRAYER: Dear Lord, we are sometimes so quick to think negatively about a situation. We jump to conclusions and choose to believe the worst. Help us to have better thoughts about ourselves and others. We want to be people who think as You want us to think. We want to do what You want us to do. We love You, Lord, and we want our thoughts to be pleasing to You. Show us Your way for us to think today so we are thinking about Your word and focusing on doing Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen. REMEMBER: Our thoughts are made up of what we have experienced and what we have filled our minds with. When we spend the day thinking about negative things, we are not meditating on the word of God. Repeating God’s word over and over to ourselves quietly will help us to focus on His word and change our thoughts. God has the ability to change what we think about when we choose to focus on Him. What can we do today to make our thoughts more pleasing to God? FOCUS: Proverbs 4:23 “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” (NLT) When we guard our heart and allow God’s word to fill our minds, we will find our thoughts will change for the better. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_pu...log_id=6371954
