Default Why Did This Happen to Me?

Why Did This Happen to Me?

Why did this happen to me, how did it go so far?
It was only supposed to be harmless fun,
But instead you placed me behind bars!
How could you make me choose when push came to shove?
I mistook your feeling and thought that you cared.
Instead you caused me pain that I almost couldn't bare.
You had me believe when we met that it was till death do us part,
but all you did was take my family, my life and numbed my heart.
You almost took my life, because I was blind,
Then I met someone who invested in me
but because of you I saw her as my enemy.
She sat up on a bench and stared down at me
she said "I see something in you that can be saved."
On that fateful day I thought what could she see,
there's nothing worth saving in me,
little did I know the road had been paved!
I was sent to a 12 step program which taught me
what a liar you were, when you said that you loved me
then took my loved ones away.
You knew I had no self esteem and came like an
elusive butterfly with such allure.
You abused me, tried to kill me and kept recovery at bay.
Today, I know how to keep you away, with sayings like
"One day at a time", "Keep it simple", "Easy does it,"
and "I can't but we can."
Recovery and I have been together 7 1/2 years
and we've worked hard. I'm it's biggest fan.
I have my family, my friends, my home and
my life which I refuse to give up.
I hear you sometimes when the going gets tough,
You whisper come back I'll get rid of the pain,
You Liar, You hater, You destroyer of life!!!
Do you think I've forgotten all you've taken from me?
Do me a favor addiction go away,
there's a cure for your sickness and guess what?

RECOVERY IS FREE!!!!!
Today the Judge who invested in me, is my mentor,
my best friend, my Guardian Angel you See.
She was sent by my Higher Power to watch over me.
Thank You Justice Connie M. Callahan,
for being who you are.
