Default Memory

God's Word For Today

Memory

Read Numbers 33:1 through 34:29

Maybe it was the woman carrying the shopping bags, or the coed animatedly texting on her phone—but someone Jason had passed on the street was wearing his high school girlfriend’s perfume. That was all it took. His mind immediately raced back to their first date: the songs on the radio, the pizza place, the dizziness of a first crush. Remembering the awkward teenager he had once been, he couldn’t help smiling.

The simple act of remembering holds a tremendous power in the human psyche. Throughout the Bible, God reminded His people how far they had come.

At the Lord’s command Moses recorded the stages in their journey. This is their journey by stages (Numbers 33:2).

By reminding Israel of their weary trek through the desert, God tried to jog the nation’s collective memory. “Remember these places,” God was saying. “Remember how it felt to be lost, and remember how I saved you.”

Think about how far He has brought us. Know that He plans to take us farther than we can imagine.

Prayer Suggestion: Remind me today, Father, of the many times You have rescued me from harm.
