Obstacles
OBSTACLES
MEMORY VERSE: Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not (Numbers 14:9). Opportunities are often lost because of fear. Hindsight reminds us of investments that would have made us wealthy had we dared risk a purchase. But fear kept our savings under lock and key. Now the opportunity is lost. The Children of Israel had witnessed the power of God in the Exodus from Egypt. The Red Sea had opened before them. Food and water had been provided for their journey. God had been faithful. Now, at the very edge of the Promised Land, their faith faltered. Their spies returned from investigating the land with a mixed report. And the majority predicted defeat in entering the land. They were afraid! Two men of faith, Caleb and Joshua, urged the people to move forward in faith. These giants for God were not ruled by fear as were the others. Ten of the twelve spies saw the obstacles. Two saw the Lord. Because the people followed their fears, they wandered in the wilderness for forty years. During that time, all of that generation died except Caleb and Joshua. Only these two were allowed to seize the opportunity offered forty years earlier. And all because they were not afraid. Every great opportunity has its obstacles. Futures and fortunes are lost by those who are afraid of those temporary roadblocks. Some dare to trust God and go ahead in faith. What will you do with the adventure offered you today?
