Default PRAYING EACH DAY - OCTOBER 2014

OCTOBER

This day, Father,
may my eyes be opened
to see the beauty
in all that is ordinary - yet special -
around me.
May the glory of all that you have made
remind me of your presence
and lead me closer to you.

Let us pray:

Lord Jesus,
you told your friends
not to worry about the future. Mt 634
You showed them
how to have the attitude
of simple trust Mk 1015
that young children have,
so that they could place themselves
into the caring hands of our Father.
And so
I ask for the power of your Spirit
that I may remain positive
throughout all that is ordinary
in my daily life.
I know that your touch
can change people and situations,
and so I ask you
to join me in offering to our Father
not only the good things of this day
but also the suffering and sacrifices
that I want to offer
cheerfully and lovingly,
and in a quiet and hidden way.
And so I pray that everything
- including what is not to my liking -
may be transformed in your presence
for the benefit of other people.
Amen.

Quote:
This is part of a poem and prayer by John
Oxenham. about the beauty of the
changing season of Autumn. We make
his words our prayer today, giving thanks
that nature’s beauty can inspire us

We thank thee, Lord…
For all the rich autumnal glories spread -
The flaming pageant
of the ripening woods,
The fiery gorse,
the heather-purpled hills,
The rustling leaves
that fly before the wind
and lie below the hedgerows
whispering;
For meadows silver-white
with hoary dew…
We thank thee, Lord.

Let us pray:

Creator God,
we thank you for the creative skills
of all human beings,
made as we are
in your image and likeness.
Inspire us to use our skills
for the benefit
of all our brothers and sisters
- working not in competition
with others
but as “fellow-travellers”
who share the same journey.
Amen.

This angel picture changes daily.

Let us pray:

Lord, make me an instrument of
your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning
that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying
that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

Use to have a Good News Bible, wondering where it went!

This explains where I got it from, my aunt worked for over 25 years for the Canadian Bible Society.

http://www.biblesociety.org.uk/the-b...the-bible/GNB/

Let us pray:

God our Father,
we could never “prove”
or “justify” ourselves to you.
Instead, your love for us
is without limit or condition.
It is Good News
that your love is free
and can never be “earned”
by any human achievement.
Jesus your Son was a perfect sign
of the wealth of your love.
We ask for the power of your Spirit
in our lives
that we, in turn,
may be credible signs of your love
to the people
we will meet today. Amen.

Let us pray:

In my own part of the world, Lord,
I pray today and commit myself
to be loving and understanding
in all that I do,
and to be generous
in giving of myself
without expecting anything in return.
I pray and commit myself
to have an attitude of respect
for each and every person,
treating everyone
as the equals that they are.
All that I am determined to be, Lord,
I ask for the power of your Spirit
to enable me to be.
Amen.

Let us pray:

God our Father,
it has been said
of many of the world’s
worst war-criminals,
just how ordinary they looked.
In the ordinary events
of our daily lives,
inspire us always to be positive
in our attitude and in our decisions.
Deliver us from all that is evil.
Amen.

We’ll take as our prayer a few words from
the Old Testament prophet, Micah:

Who can compare with the Lord?
He pardons what we do wrong,
and takes great pleasure
in having mercy.
He treads down our faults,
and he casts our sins
to the very bottom of the sea.
(Micah 718-20)

Let us reflect and pray about our ordinary vision,
and our vision through telescopes and microscopes:

God our Father,
may the vastness of your creation
that we can begin to see
through a telescope,
remind us of the abundance
of your love.
May the lowliness
of the smallest creatures and cells
that we can see through a microscope,
remind us
of how insignificant - yet special -
we appear to be.
May our vision each day
of the world around us
remind us that you so loved the world
that you sent Jesus, your Son,
to be one of us.
In all that we observe,
open our eyes
so that we may really see
and grow in wonder and appreciation.
Amen.

An inspiring prayer of Saint Francis of
Assisi is called “The Canticle of Creation”,
which we will use as our prayer today:

O Most High, all-powerful,
good Lord God, to you belong praise, glory,
honour and all blessing.

Be praised, my Lord,
for all your creation
and especially for our Brother Sun,
who brings us the day and the light;

he is strong and shines magnificently.
O Lord, we think of you
when we look at him.

Be praised, my Lord, for Sister Moon,
and for the stars
which you have set shining and lovely
in the heavens.

Be praised, my Lord,
for our Brothers Wind and Air
and every kind of weather
by which you, Lord,
uphold life in all your creatures.

Be praised, my Lord, for Sister Water,
who is very useful to us,
and humble and precious and pure.

Be praised, my Lord, for Brother Fire,
through whom
you give us light in the darkness:
he is bright and lively and strong.

Be praised, my Lord,
for Sister Earth, our Mother,
who nourishes us and sustains us,
bringing forth
fruits and vegetables of many kinds
and flowers of many colours.

Be praised, my Lord,
for those who forgive for love of you;
and for those
who bear sickness and weakness
in peace and patience
- you will grant them a crown.

Be praised, my Lord, for our Sister Death,
whom we must all face.

I praise and bless you, Lord,
and I give thanks to you,
and I will serve you in all humility.

Let us pray:

Lord our God,
we pray that,
no matter what happens to us,
we may grow
as people who are generous enough
to hold no hatred or bitterness
towards anyone.
Amen.

Let us pray:

God our Father,
one of the greatest yearnings
of the human spirit
is to be free,
and we know
that there are many kinds
of restriction
that limit and confine us.
Inspire us today to help others
to grow in freedom
through the respect
and understanding
and kindness
that we can offer.
Amen.

Feeling very blessed today. The prayer is from one site and the pictures from another. Two have the word beautiful mentioned and the word friend in mentioned on two others and a rose is depicted in all three. We are all connected, it is all there if we look for it.

Great Spirit,
whose voice I hear in the winds,
and whose breath
gives life to all the world,
hear me!
I am small and weak;
I need your strength and wisdom

Let me walk in beauty,
and may my eyes always see
the red and purple sunset.
May my hands
respect the things that you have made,
and my ears be sharp to hear your voice.

Make me wise
so that I may understand
the things that you have taught
my people.
Let me learn the lessons
that you have hidden in every leaf
and rock.

Make me always ready to be with you
with clean hands and straight eyes.
So, when life fades as the fading sunset,
my spirit may come to you
without shame.

Let us pray:

There are likely to be some sudden
and abrupt changes in my life,
but there will be
many more changes
that are slow in taking place.
When I face difficulties and crisis,
I ask you, Lord, to help me
to be wise and balanced
in my decisions,
strong in my friendships,
and faithful to you,
and so be more able
to live at peace within.
Amen.

“The Lord’s Prayer”

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
