Default Don'ts Of Sponsorship From The Big Book

DON'TS OF SPONSORSHIP FROM THE BIG BOOK

1. Don’t start off as an evangelist or reformer.

2. Don’t deal with him when he is very drunk.

3. Don’t refer to this Book unless he’s seen it and wishes to discuss it.

4. Don’t brand him as an alcoholic.

5. He doesn’t have to see you if he doesn’t want to. He shouldn’t be pushed or prodded.

6. Don’t wear out your welcome.

7. If he rebels about house cleaning, which required discussion with other people, don’t contradict such views.

8. Never talk down from a moral or spiritual hilltop.

9. Don’t be discouraged if he doesn’t respond at once. Search out another alcoholic and try again.

10. Don’t allow him to live in your home for a long time.

11. Argument and fault finding are to be avoided like the plague.

12. Don’t participate in his family quarrels. Tell his family he’s a very sick person and should be treated accordingly.

13. Never withdraw from your friends just because they drink.

14. Your job is now to be at the place where you may be of maximum helpfulness to others, so never hesitate to visit the most sordid spot on the earth. God will keep you unharmed.

15. Never show intolerance or hatred for drinking as an institution.
