Default Fatigue Is No Crime

Fatigue Is No Crime

John 4:6 - “And Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well.”

“I feel I should never give in to being tired,” confided my friend. “Everyone will be disappointed in me if I don’t get it all done. I must not let them down.”

Some of us believe that we prove our spirituality by having all the answers, doing everything, and helping everyone. When this is our creed, we cannot afford the luxury of fatigue.

“Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well.” This simple phrase from scripture gives us a glimpse into the everyday life of our Savior, Jesus. Although Jesus never sinned, he did tire. Fatigue is a normal human reaction to performing ordinary daily activities. While Jesus was on earth he experienced the limitations of a human body.

We don’t need to expect ourselves or those we love to keep going indefinitely, without stopping to rest. Allow yourself and others time for recuperation. Slow down. Relax. Jesus did. It’s all right.

Lord, help me to remember

that I’m not committing a crime by succumbing to fatigue.

I want to learn to stop and rest without experiencing shame.

Please help me.
