Default Fruitful

God's Word For Today

Fruitful

Read Ezekiel 15:1 through 16:63

Melanie was stunned to find a dry, scrawny rosebush in her garage. How long had it been there? Then she remembered putting the pot in the garage for protection during a storm the winter before. Could it ever bloom again? As she carefully, but ruthlessly pruned away the shriveled branches, Melanie found signs of life. She took the bush out of the pot and planted it in the ground with special food to nourish it. Several months later, the rose bore beautiful crimson blossoms. Without the painful pruning, the rose would never have been fruitful again.

“If it was not useful for anything when it was whole, how much less can it be made into something useful when the fire has burned it and it is charred?” (Ezekiel 15:5).

The people of Israel had become as fruitless as a charred branch. God used judgment to prune away their unrighteousness so they could, once again, display His glory. In our lives, pruning is necessary if we are to be people who bring honor to God. The process is painful, but it produces results.

Challenge for Today: Embrace the pruning process and allow God to make you fruitful.

Quicklook: Ezekiel 15:1–8
