I'm Who I'm
Some of us fear that by joining AA we'll be changed into somebody we don't want to be. For me, I feared becoming religious. My sponsor helped me out with this fear by telling me that if I didn't know how to play the piano before coming to AA that recovery wasn't going to teach me how to do that, and that if after I was in recovery and I wanted to learn how to play the piano that would be on me. He also said that recovery isn't about changing who we are, but about becoming more aware of who we are, as we were when we came to this world, innocent and pure. From recovery we will find out things about ourselves that we either have forgotten about, or didn't know about ourselves either way, we are who we are, and that never changes.
