Default I’m Back!

I’m Back!

Genesis 13:1-4: “[Abram] went from place to place until he come to …where his tent had been earlier and where he had first built an altar. There Abram called on the name of the Lord” (vv.3-4).

Abram’s self-protective lies concerning his marital status got him into trouble. His dishonesty forced the Egyptian officials to request him to leave. Having gone to Egypt to escape the famine, he and his family now wandered from one area to another until they came to Bethel. This place he knew. It was here that Abram had previously responded in faith to God’s promises.

Much had happened since that time in Abram’s life. Sometime during his travels, he must have decided that he wanted to enrich the spiritual side of his life. So he called on God.

Some of us have gotten off-track spiritually. We did not plan to do so. Perhaps we neglected our relationship with God, while trying to keep busy and look good. We may have been disappointed by other people, or disillusioned with life after trying so hard to do everything just right. But we’re tired. Like Abram, we can go back to the place where we left our spiritual integrity. We can pray again. Not to impress anyone, but just talk to God. He is waiting.

Lord, I’m back.
I need you.
Please travel with me.

Now to me, this is about spiritual day to day living. We can get so caught up in life, we forget why we have a life, and forget to give thanks and forget where our life came from and where we would be if our God was not in our life.

God doesn't go away, we do. It doesn't always have to be a 'bad' thing that takes us away, it can just be a lapse of memory or getting caught up in busy and forgetting to spend time with God in today. Sometimes, just a quick prayer "Hi" and "Goodbye" doesn't cut it.
