We all have had such lofty expectations of perfection for ourselves. These all came from us watching those who were anything but perfect, and us thinking that they were and wanting to be like them. And off we run with an impossible expectation of perfection for ourselves that wasn't even real or obtainable for us, or anyone else. Then all of us wondered why living the life the way we were wasn't working. When it was all too plain to see that it was because we had come to expect to be perfect. We can all laugh at this now that we are in recovery because while we might be better off now that we are in recovery, by no means does it make us perfect, or will we ever be perfect. It's not the goal of recovery, or of life for that matter for us to be perfect any longer. It's okay for us now if we want to try to be perfect as long as we understand the fact that we'll never be perfect, and to be okay with that. And any of us who have been able to do this can indeed say we have made progress.
