Know your purpose What is your purpose right now? What do you seek to accomplish with the way you are currently living your life? It’s a good question to ask, and one you would do well to consider often. Remain connected to purpose, and avoid having your time and awareness hijacked by outside influences. Know your purpose, and you have a solid basis for knowing what to do. You see possibilities that would otherwise be invisible to you. With a strong sense of purpose, you will not be trapped by the circumstances of the moment. You’re able to focus your energy in a worthy, productive direction. Purpose pushes you to persist. Purpose directs you to harvest lasting value from each day. The way you feel right now is based on a purpose, a specific combination of what and why. Challenge yourself to understand it as clearly as possible, and go where its power leads. — Ralph Marston

All the good you can do Let the good times and the difficult times bring out the best in you. See that each experience is fertile ground for excellence. Make it your business to thrive on every challenge. Make it your choice to expand upon every joy. No time, no situation, no task ever has to be a waste of your life. You can transform anything into your own unique flavor of fulfillment. You can extract value where none is evident. You can create value where none existed before. You don’t have to strive and fight to get everything to line up in your favor. Instead, look deeply enough to understand the factors that are already in your favor. No matter how life unfolds, it can bring out the best in you. Be an active participant in that process and open yourself in every situation to all the good you can do. — Ralph Marston

Keep going forward What a shame it would be for your progress to derail itself as a result of its own success. What a waste it would be to make an impressive start and then just abandon that momentum. When you’ve had a little success, that’s the best time to create more success. When you’ve made a little headway, you’re well positioned for much more. You may have earned the privilege of being complacent. Yet the last thing you want to do is exercise that privilege. What’s in your best interest, and in everyone else’s best interest as well, is to push forward. Make the most of your momentum by continuing that momentum. Enjoy the good feeling of knowing you’ve made a positive difference. Then devote yourself to generating much more of that feeling. Take all that new skill, experience, wisdom, and put it to further use. When you’re going good, keep going forward. — Ralph Marston

Working on it Life is not everything you would like it to be. Yet you’re working on it. You’re working on it, and that’s a good place to be. Because you can enjoy the incomparable experience of making a difference. You’re working on it, and every effort has meaning. You’re working on it, discovering again and again how to bring new value to life. You’re working on it, and you have a lot of good company. You’re surrounded, assisted, challenged and encouraged by all the others who are working, each in their own way. Life is a dynamic experience, driven by thoughts, actions, feelings, by purpose, by love. You’re working on it, and by so doing you make every little bit count for something good. Take a moment to realize how great it is that you’re working on it. Then step forward and offer your best efforts yet. — Ralph Marston

Life’s call to action When life asks the most from you is when you’re getting the most from life. What you receive is inseparable from what you give. Dig deep, give more, and you’ll benefit just as much as anyone. That is the essential nature of every opportunity. Today is filled with many such opportunities. Turn toward them, filled with gratitude, eager to do your best work. Get involved and invested, pulling life again and again in a more positive direction. Let each small gain remind you how much more you can do. Achievement is not easy but neither is it complicated. It’s a matter of going where you are needed and doing what must be done. You’ve always been good at that, and each effort makes you better. Answer life’s call to action and share in the great rewards. — Ralph Marston

Adapting to change Do you realize how much power there is in your ability to adapt? The world changes all the time, and fortunately so can you. Yes, you’ll always be who you’ve always been. Yet there is no limit to the ways you can express your beautiful, unique, essential nature. No dream ever has to be lost, no hope needs ever to be dashed. Because you can adapt those hopes and dreams to whatever reality appears in your path. Some of the best things that will ever be in your life, you have not yet even heard of. By adapting to life’s challenges you position yourself to accept and enjoy life’s rewards. Tomorrow will be different than today, next year different than the past. Instead of wishing for things to stay the same, look for positive possibilities in the changes. Those possibilities always appear, and you can always adapt to them. You’ll get to enjoy making life good in ways you cannot yet imagine. — Ralph Marston

True betterment Give yourself some love. Give your world some goodness. Fortify your words, thoughts, actions, with truth. Invigorate your relationships with thoughtfulness, with kindness. Refresh your sense of purpose by choosing what is good, just because it is good. Find great joy in life’s beauty without needing to possess it, or control it, or consume it. Leave behind the weariness of struggling to keep up deceptive appearances. Feel the sweet relief of allowing authenticity. Carry hope into dark corners where it has been missing for too long. Allow peace to settle upon ground that has been exhausted by strife. With your choices, your perspective, your energy, enable life to flourish at its highest level. Envision true betterment, for yourself, for all, and let your life be its faithful advocate. — Ralph Marston

Don’t be so certain If you too often seek refuge in certainty, that certainty can become a trap. Conditions change, and you must be willing to acknowledge that, to adjust your own thoughts and actions accordingly. Yes, work to gain more confidence in what you already know. At the same time seek out what makes you wonder, what baffles you, what challenges your sense of certainty. You may have superb, well thought out answers to the questions of the moment. Yet someone else may have even more appropriate, workable solutions. Don’t let your certainty deny you access to any of life’s wonder, value, excellence, and fulfillment. Loosen up on your need to be certain, and open up to more of life’s richness. Look for ways to venture outside any bubbles of certitude you may have created. Go where you can develop wider, deeper, more nuanced understanding. Certainty feels good, yet like anything that feels good, too much certainty is not good. Don’t be so certain, and enable yourself to experience more of life’s boundless wonder. — Ralph Marston

Make it happen You won’t get it done by merely planning to do it. You won’t get it done by explaining why you can’t do it. You’ll get it done by going to work on it. You’ll get it done by starting the effort, continuing it, and finishing it. If you’re not making that effort, you can’t expect your desired results to magically appear. If you’re not making use of right now, you’re letting valuable time slip through your fingers. If all you’re doing is waiting, hoping, wishing, or listing your excuses, none of that will get you anywhere. Choose instead to take action. Even though it may not be perfect, right now you can get something done. Right now you can transform time that would otherwise be wasted into something of value that will endure. In a few hours, in a week or two, you’ll thank yourself for all you’re able to achieve right now. So go ahead and make it happen. — Ralph Marston

No greater privilege You are surrounded by all sorts of future possibilities. You are immersed in various forms of present value. You are filled with curiosity, passion, ideas, hopes, dreams, preferences, and love. You have the good fortune to possess knowledge, skills, experience, intellect, and awareness. This is your chance to put it all together. This is your opportunity to fulfill the unique potential that is your life. Now is when every joy you’ve ever known can join forces with every disappointment to push you forward. You can give new expression to all you care about, all you remember, hope for and imagine. Open your eyes, open your mind, open your spirit, open your heart. Feel life in its entirety and remind yourself of the spectacular promise you hold in your hands. Be authentically who you are and embrace fully who you can be. There is no greater privilege and it is yours right now to live. — Ralph Marston

Reward yourself with responsibility Nothing will solve your problems until you take responsibility for them. That truth is built more deeply into life than you can imagine. You cannot escape the necessity of taking responsibility. Seeking to hand that responsibility off to others only makes your situation worse. Yes, others can be of great help to you, and yes, others may very well be to blame for your situation. Nevertheless, you must take responsibility for it, and once you do so, good things begin to happen. Take responsibility, and you liberate yourself from the oppression of your own denial. You see reality more clearly, and you find ways to increase that clarity. You begin to discover your own power and effectiveness, and you begin to add to it. Taking responsibility is not easy, comfortable, or convenient, yet it’s really your only choice. You’re rewarded with a measure of control over the way your life unfolds and an ability to respond to whatever comes. Give yourself that ability, without hesitation, without condition. — Ralph Marston

Energy level How do you know what’s right for you and what’s not? One good way is to pay attention to your energy level. There are people, places, activities, and thoughts that make you feel more energetic. There are certain environments, challenges, concepts, and rhythms that raise your energy level. What can you do to bring more of those things into your life? How can you add a little more energy to your experience right now? Notice what energizes you, and notice also what drains you. Orient yourself, physically, mentally, spiritually, in ways that keep you in a more positive and energetic state. You are in a constant state of interaction with many different aspects of existence. By strategically selecting the most empowering interactions, you can vastly improve the quality of your life. Energy is an essential and defining component of your being. Do all you can to make that energy plentiful and positive. — Ralph Marston

Detach yourself Detach yourself from the negative things and those things lose their power over you. Detach yourself from the good things and you’ll enable yourself to enjoy them more. Reality is what it is, and you cannot change what already is. What you can do, though, is to stop being burdened by your own need. Make every day an adventure rather than a chore. Embrace what comes your way instead of being fearful of it or dependent on it. Detachment does not mean avoiding commitment. It means avoiding unnecessary entanglement, and acting as the unique and purposeful force that you are. You can be highly committed to people, objectives, and ideals while at the same time being detached from them. Doing so enables you to act with the power of love rather than the weakness of need. Detach yourself, and free yourself to embrace life with love, with purpose, with intention. Detach yourself, and you can then involve yourself in the most positive, authentic way possible. — Ralph Marston

Align with reality Align yourself with reality. And you’ll empower yourself to successfully deal with that reality. In this time, in this moment, clearly see the world as it is. Calmly, soberly accept that there are many things you can do nothing to change. Acknowledge the reality of now, letting go of the need to worry, fret, complain or deny. Then, filled with honest energy, you can set about to create the most positive outcomes. Your fervent wishes will not change what has already happened. Yet your realistic, committed efforts can absolutely improve how the future unfolds. Face the truth, face the challenge, face the fear. Feel the great power and effectiveness of a confidence that is based in reality. Even in the worst of times, opportunities abound, new richness can be created, overwhelming problems addressed. Acknowledge reality, and invest your time and energy in making great improvements to it. — Ralph Marston
