God's Word For Today

Read Leviticus 23:1 through 25:34; Matthew 26:57–75

A Christian man lives near a large city where there are many homeless people. During cold weather, many who live on the streets choose to remain outside rather than going to a shelter. The man noticed this and decided to do something to help them. So he drives to the city one evening a week, purchases food and warm drinks, and distributes them to some of the homeless population. He has become a face of compassion to those who struggle in tough life situations.

“When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the Lord your God” (Leviticus 23:22).

Those who have a small income may not feel they have the means to help others. They must remember that any amount of money can make a difference. And it isn’t always money that is needed. They can share time, expertise, or a listening ear.

When people give out of whatever resources they have, someone will benefit.

Prayer Suggestion: Lord, open my eyes to anything I can do to help those in need.

Quicklook: Leviticus 23:15–22

Always believed if you have enough for one, you have enough for two. Some days I forget that, there were times in my life when I went hungry and I feared running out of food and ended up stocking food and not living on faith. My God will provide.
