Default Topic of the week - words that begin with "G"

G is for Good. God is Good. Good is God. There is goodness in all of us. Take care of yourself and allow yourself to heal, look for what is best for your Higher Good.

G is for Gratitude. Make a gratitude at the end of each day. A grateful alcoholic/addict will never have a reason to pick up.

G is for Ground. Ground yourself, get in touch with nature, walk on grass, touch trees, leaves, flowers, and natures gifts.

Water is grounding, be it lake, stream or your bathtub. It is good to put a mat under your feet when you are on the computer.

Ground yourself in reality instead of fantasy.

G is for Glory. To God give the Glory. His Will be done not mine. To Him goes the credit, not through my doing, I am powerless over people, places and things. Through my God, I am empowered to do what I need to do to stay clean and sober, just for today.

I don't sing my praises, I praise my God from who all blessings flow.

G is for Grateful. This is the time to reap the benefits of your recovery. Don't fall back into your addiction because of the winter blues. Don't look at what you don't have, but be grateful for what you have. Reality is what is, not as you would have it be. Get honest with yourself and you can be honest with others.

G is for Gosh, Golly, Gee Whiz. An old saying from my youth, which in truth helped me to rationalize and justify. A good sign that I was insecure within myself and excusing myself for being the big mistake I thought I was.

I may do silly things, but that doesn`t mean I am stupid. I may make mistakes, but that doesn`t mean I am one.

G is for Growth. Not the kind of growth that broadens your body, but your mind and spirit. So many girls in recovery get put on anti-depressants because doctors do not know about our disease and they go back out using to get thin.

I heard a counsellor say, do not worry about the weight gain, you can always fix that later. For me it was not an option, so would not take the med. I had to look at the whole picture, find some acceptance, and used alternative medicines before having to take a drug. Something I have to take, like my Metformin, my blood pressure medication (on lower dose), pills for the nerve damage in my body, etc. Most of what I take are Vitamins and Minerals. I had to pray and turn my thinking over, because just taking a pill of any form, would often guide me into old ways of thinking. Looking for the quick fix, wanting more when one did not seem to cut it, looking for that little something else to help it along and give it a little boost. The insanity of our disease can guide us into the paranoia that comes with addiction.

I had to walk in faith and accept the Guidance of my Higher Power.

G is for Grim. Are you happy in recovery? If not, what are you doing wrong. Have you worked the steps and applied them to your life. Are you going around all gloom and doom. Do you give smiles or do you have a grim outlook on life.

Try grin not grim!

G is for Grace. But for the Grace of God, I would not be here. But for His Grace, I wouldn't hear what I needed to hear, see what I needed to see, and learn the lessons that are sent my way.

I grew up saying Grace, giving thanks for my food. Along the way, I lost some of that gratitude and I have to remember to say it daily. When I see those little things that I recognize as my God working in my life, I say, "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!"
