6 years of sobriety
I just wanted to tell you my story of strongest addiction and my way of fighting it. I’ve been addicted to heroin for 6 years already, I wanted to quit so many times that I don’t even remember. My parents, my wife really had a great bunch of tuff time with me. They tried to help me, taking to rehab, counseling. And in one of such rehab clinics I’ve met a person. He was a doctor there. He did incredible things to us. He made me believe I want to live again! There I was imbued a strong disgust to heroin and to everything connected to drugs. The most important thing people should know about quitting drugs is that your own strongest desire to be clean is the way out. Without desire you will fail again. You must follow and do everything your doctor says and even more. Never hesitate to live a normal life again!

Congratulations on your 6 years. You are so right, if we are not willing to stay clean and sober (soundness of mind), it won't happen. If we try to do it for others, most times it doesn't work, unless you find you want to do it for yourself too.
I was in denial about my alcoholism, I knew I was an addict, to trouble with that. It wasn't until I could accept that I used alcohol like I did all other substance, that I could stop and stay stopped. I was 2 years in recovery, still in denial, but realized that alcohol was a part of the package. It got to a stage in my life, to use is to die and I chose to live. Thank you for your share. Hope you will continue to come and share your journey with us.

Congratulations on 6 years of sobriety! Any door is opening for you! Respect to your doctor. You are so lucky to find that one. My family had found a real crackjack))
Good luck! |

Thank you ladies. Yes Jane you are right, I understand, that more then half of my recovery was made by my doctor. He had always inspired me, listened to me, he was so attentive to me and to other people who were fighting with their addictions. It is really important to be honest with your doctor and with yourself.
Thank you |

Thanks for sharing. I had to change doctors when I came into recovery, mine had been my supplier for years.

Good for you. Did it take a long time to trust another doctor?

I didn't at first, but found out they had problems of the concept of be being clean and sober. They would ask me if I had been using. As one person said, "I didn't know an alcoholic could get sober, let alone stay sober."
