God's Word For Today

Family

Read Leviticus 11:1 through 13:46; Matthew 24:29–51

Joe visited a local church. He was very curious about the things of God. He also carried hurts from broken relationships. He was impressed at how the church members reached out to him. He felt the members treated each other like a family, and he had searched for such a group. Eventually the message of the gospel resonated with him, and he surrendered his life to Christ.

“As long as they have the disease they remain unclean. They must live alone; they must live outside the camp” (Leviticus 13:46).

Leviticus instructed that a person with a disease was to live outside the camp until he healed. Being separated from others can be a type of disease in itself. Sometimes loneliness is one of the reasons people seek out a church.

When people become believers, it should feel like they no longer live outside the camp. They are participants in the family of God. They get brothers and sisters in Christ and should find support and encouragement. When things are tough they should be able to find fellow believers with an empty seat at their table and a cup of coffee to share.

Challenge for Today: Reach out to visitors who enter your fellowship.
