Default Greed

GREED

Most of us don’t think of ourselves as being greedy. However, greed can creep up on us if we aren’t careful. Greed is focusing on something or someone so much that we lose focus on God. Greed is when we wake up thinking about what we want rather than being grateful for what we have. Greed is going after what we want regardless of what effect that has on our relationships. Greed is focusing on getting what we want rather than giving what we have to God and to others.

Proverbs 28:25 “Greed causes fighting; trusting the Lord leads to prosperity.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us not to be greedy. Help us to have the self-control to give. We know we are blessed with so much yet we give very little. Please reveal to us the ways in which we are greedy so we can turn from our greed and be the giving people You have called us to be. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We should be disciplined enough from studying God’s word not to be greedy but to give.

Greed destroys relationships.

Giving up on getting what we want will help us to remember to give what we have.

Ambition and goal setting can soon lead to greed if we are not careful.

Greed is a powerful motivator – but for all the wrong reasons.

Proverbs 15:27 “Greed brings grief to the whole family, but those who hate bribes will live.” (NLT)

Focus: Examine your life and ask God to show you areas where you may be a bit too greedy.
