Daily Motivator - October
October 1
Knowing why Why have you chosen to do what you do? Knowing why makes all the difference. Know why, and you’ll figure out how. Know why, and you’ll find the motivation, enthusiasm, persistence, and strength to make it happen. Just because everyone else desires to do, to have, to achieve something, is not enough. Be sure it’s truly important to you, and know why. Give your actions the power of authentic purpose. Tap into a source of energy that grows stronger the more you use it. Instead of frustration, you can experience joy. Instead of disappointment, you can know fulfillment. It all comes from understanding why. Know why, and whatever you imagine is yours to create. — Ralph Marston

Make it your choice Whether you have chosen this situation or not, proceed as though you have. Make the decision to choose it now, and to continue doing so. No matter what the circumstance, feeling stuck will not improve your performance. Let it be your choice to be where you already are, and find power in that choice. Whatever or whomever may be to blame, assume full responsibility. Put yourself in control by making yourself responsible for improving the situation. It’s a waste of your time to speculate about how things could have been different. Invest your time taking action that will transform the situation in a positive way. Your energy is best spent making progress, and not harboring resentment. Make it your choice to be here now, doing all you can to add beneficial value. You are in this situation to make a difference. Put all your focus on identifying the best possibilities and bringing them to life. — Ralph Marston

Let go of need Enjoy peace, richness, satisfaction. Let go of need. The more thankful you are, the less you need. The more profoundly you enjoy every little thing, the less need you have for more. Love all you love, desire all you desire, seek to grow and build and experience and give. Magnify the richness and fulfillment of it all by letting go of your need. Do what you do, achieve what you achieve, learn what you learn because you love and respect and value it, not because you need it. Let go of need, and let life be the best it can be. Honor your commitments, fulfill your obligations because you choose to, not because you need to. Be so highly inspired by your possibilities that you are never burdened by your needs. Free yourself from need. Enable your life to soar. — Ralph Marston

Choose peace instead When you feel frustration arising, choose peace instead. If anger starts to consume your awareness, choose peace instead. When patience begins to wear thin, and you want to say or do something rash, choose peace instead. As worries and fears threaten to overtake you, choose peace instead. Choose calm strength rather than frenzied anxiety. Choose peace. Enable yourself to think clearly and to act with confidence. Choose peace. You don’t have to be pulled in a dozen different directions by disruption and confusion. You can choose peace instead. Stay connected to purpose, to truth, to goodness and positive intention. If anything starts to throw you off course, you can always choose peace instead. — Ralph Marston

Great life you deserve Change the world today by changing the way you look at it. Improve your life today by improving what you think of it and what you do with it. You have the power, right now, to inject new positive energy and enthusiasm into your world. Go ahead and activate that power. It’s true that much of what happens in the world around you is out of your control. Yet you can absolutely control the factors that make the most difference to your experience of life. It’s up to you to decide what you think, what you do, and how you feel. Take positive, purposeful control of those things, and you can make this day better than any day has ever been. The perspective you live with is the perspective you have chosen. If you’ve somehow worked your way into a negative frame of mind, you have what’s necessary to quickly get yourself out of it and into a more positive place. You are literally surrounded by a universe of possibilities. Now, align yourself with the highest and best of those possibilities, and live the great life you deserve to live. — Ralph Marston

New starting point If you’re not careful, complacency can make everything you’ve gained crumble to the ground. Don’t let your success be victim of that same success. Avoid complacency by responding to each success with gratitude, humility, and continuing effort. Treat success as an opportunity to create even more success. If all you do with your good fortune is consume it, you’ll soon be left with nothing but regret. Instead, seize the opportunity to build upon your success. The joy of accomplishment is in the doing. The way to continue that joy is to continue the doing. Realize that the biggest reward of any success is the opportunity to aim for even more success. Feel the extent of that opportunity, and go to work on it. Make every success into a new starting point. Delight in continuing to fill your world with new achievement and value. — Ralph Marston

Widespread influence The work you do takes on a life of its own as it benefits the lives of others. Each positive effort you make continues to live and expand in influence. After you have moved on to something else, what you do to make a difference keeps on making a difference. The song lives on in the hearts of those who hear it, long after the singer is finished. Kindness you offer, gives birth to more kindness. The love you give, enables more and more love. All of life is connected. Once your words are uttered, once your actions are taken, they begin spreading through the connections. Life expands, amplifies, widens the impact of the way you choose to live. Choose goodness, truth, love, peace, and your influence lifts the world in ways you cannot imagine. Visualize your actions cascading through the miles, through lives, over centuries. Make every choice worthy of the lasting, widespread influence it will have as it fans out through all of life. — Ralph Marston

On this very day Right now is your only opportunity to live this one-of-a-kind day. Fill its moments with purpose, experience, feeling, wonder, kindness, and love. Remind yourself how fortunate you are to be here, now, alive, aware, and able to make a difference. Share your good fortune by offering the best version of yourself to everyone you encounter. Choose not to waste any of today’s precious time on things that bring you down or on matters that don’t really matter. Keep your focus on the beauty, on the goodness, on all you love. Don’t rush ahead, don’t fall behind. Embrace each moment as it arrives and work to fulfill its unique opportunities. The richness of your life does not live in some distant time or faraway place. It is here, now, ready to be experienced and expressed. Step boldly forward and connect with the great value that is yours to live on this very day. Realize who you are, what you have, everything you can do, and be inspired to put it all, right now, to great use. — Ralph Marston

Make a difference The fact is, you can make a difference. Will you, today? Even if no one notices, even if no one understands, even if no one seems to care, you can make a difference. You can give the world a persistent nudge in a positive direction. Sure, you could choose to skim along the glossy surface of life, and add to your stash of meaningless sensations. Or you can stop, dig in, and do the difficult, often thankless work, to make a difference. Next time you pass a mirror, pause, take a look, and ask yourself, what do you really want to be doing with your life? Do you want to just upload pretty pictures of your face, or would you rather look others directly in the eyes and see the difference you’ve made in their lives? There’s no such thing as a life well lived if it’s lived only in your narrow self-interest. Go beyond merely posing as someone who cares, beyond just voicing support for all the proper, impressive causes. Find a way, your own special way, to make a difference. And do it. — Ralph Marston

Let life get to you Let life’s wonder and beauty draw you in. Let life’s mystery and possibilities excite you. Let life’s challenges generate fresh enthusiasm within you. Let life’s goodness inspire you. Let life get to you in a way that is positive and energizing. Whatever the moment offers, let the brilliance, the love, the hope shine through. Draw new strength from each experience. Find new respect, understanding, and compassion with every encounter. Whether the day is stormy, or sunny, or somewhere in between, you have good things to do with it. Be motivated by what you see, what you feel, what you know, to give your best. Open yourself anew to the wondrous experience of being alive. Let life get to you in a way that invigorates you into giving your best. — Ralph Marston

Realistically hopeful What has happened, has happened. What you think about it, what you feel about it, what you do about it, that’s all up to you. There may be ample reasons to feel despair. Even so, you can make the choice instead to be hopeful, and realistically so. True hope is not an empty fantasy. It is a decision you make about how you intend to move forward. Being realistically hopeful is being ready and willing to support your hope with your persistent efforts, your attitude, your commitment and priorities. Realistic hope is always possible because the situation will change, and your hope can influence the direction of that change. Hope is much more powerful than a mere wish for things to get better. Hope energizes you to do the work that will make things better. The world at times can lay great difficulty upon you. Meet it always with the power of real hope, and let that hope push you to transform each challenge into new achievement. — Ralph Marston

Seek harmony Conflict leads to despair and destruction. Harmony supports, encourages, creates value, trust, and positive energy. Focus your awareness not on what you oppose or wish to avoid. Instead, keep your thoughts and actions centered on all you love and support and wish to experience more of in life. Those who have opinions and perspectives that are different from yours are not your enemies. Indeed, they can be your greatest teachers. Seek to get beyond the urge to fight, beyond the need to prove yourself. Live on a level at which respect, understanding, and cooperation guide your interactions. Discover how much more can be achieved through agreement and finding common ground than through argument and opposition. Use your energy along with others to build together rather than wasting it in tearing each other down. Let go of your ego’s combative urges, and let the power of harmony into your world. The less you fight, the less you oppose, the more there is for everyone to create and enjoy. — Ralph Marston

Play in active role When you come upon an opportunity, take it. When you discover a problem, solve it. Play an active role in life each day. Get up, get out there, get busy, and get things done. Make use of your energy and you’ll have much more of it. Put forth a little enthusiasm, and you will quickly feel that enthusiasm began to grow. Join in without waiting to be invited or persuaded. Offer your action, your advice, your understanding, your kindness. Keep yourself interested, informed, involved, and positive about making a difference. Always there is something good and worthwhile that you can do. Life moves fast and is filled with richness. Move along with it, and add your own unique efforts and expressions to the richness. — Ralph Marston

Tomorrow will come At the end of this day, what will you wish you had made a top priority? Now is your chance to do that. At the end of the year, what will you wish you had done every day? Now is your opportunity to finish the year thankful instead of regretful. The moment you’re in gives you great leverage over all the moments to come. Utilize that leverage while you have it. It’s all too easy to get distracted, make excuses, waste your time. Remind yourself, though, that tomorrow will come and when it does, you’ll be thankful for making good use of today. Tomorrow will come, and now is when you can maximize the value with which it arrives. Tomorrow will come, and with your efforts today you can position yourself to welcome it with confidence and enthusiasm. Take the opportunity that’s yours today. Tomorrow will come, and there’s much you can do right now to make it a rich and fulfilling time. — Ralph Marston
